TOOLS & PARTS SERIES, 2018
This series of painting started with my summer residency in North Dakota. In a rural setting, people work more with tools in their daily lives. Some of these pieces of metal are farm parts, or attach to other things. My favorite tool is a torn clamp that was used to it’s breaking point. This serves at a metaphor for so many things in life, like loss, failure, perseverance. As we move from the analog to the digital age, I’m exploring the physical weight and meaning of the things we can touch and feel. The distance we keep ourselves from nature and the distance between the analog and digital world. The addition of the bone is a new juxtaposition to add nature and the organic mixed with the man made metal part.
